title: migrating snow goose
medium: watercolour
price: R 1 500
size (wxh): 900 x 600mm
framed: yes
I am inspired by their feather patterns, the soft shapes of their bodies and the fact that the code of the wild goose is to mate for life and sometimes beyond the days of living (Ellis, M.). To me their natural instinct to ride the wind, from the southern United States to the northern waters around Hudson Bay in Canada (two to four thousand miles) to build their nests, is a sacred phenomenon. It gives us a sense of wonder which we have a need for. The migration is well described by William Fiennes in his book 'The Snow Geeese'.
Referances on literature that inspired me

Ellis, M. Wild Goose, Brother Goose. Robert Hale, London.
Fiennes, W. 2002. The Snow Geese. Picador.
Galico, P. 1941. The Snow Goose. Penguin Books.
